Mark and Kevin have been best friends since the first year of junior high school. They often walk home together and share their problems with each other. One afternoon, Mark looks very worried. He has not studied well for his final exams, and he has no idea what to do.
Kevin listens carefully and says, "If I were you, I would make a study plan right away. Start with the subjects you find most difficult, and do a little bit every day." Mark shakes his head slowly. He feels there is not enough time left. Kevin disagrees. "If I were you, I would not give up so easily. Even a few days of hard study can make a big difference."
Mark also tells Kevin about another problem. His parents want him to join a school speech contest next month, but he is very nervous about speaking in front of a big group of people. Kevin smiles and says, "If I were in your shoes, I would practice every night in front of a mirror. It sounds funny, but it really helps a lot."
Mark thinks about Kevin's advice all night. The next morning, he wakes up early and makes a study schedule. He also starts to practice his speech alone in his room. It feels a little strange at first, but he soon gets more and more comfortable.
Two weeks later, Mark passes all his final exams and does very well in the speech contest. He calls Kevin right away to share the good news. Kevin laughs and says, "If I were you, I would celebrate with a big meal tonight!" Mark agrees, and they go out for dinner together. Good friends always know the right words to say.
