Every year, our nuclear family takes a plane to visit Grandpa's farm for Christmas. It is one of our favorite traditions. We always call the night before to confirm our arrival time, and Grandpa always says he will prepare a big meal. The farm is near a small hill. On our first morning there, we like to climb to the top of the hill and look at the green fields below. The view is always beautiful.
Grandpa's farm has many fruit trees with long branches stretching out in every direction. We like to walk along the track that goes around the whole farm and touch the leaves along the way. The length of the path is about one kilometer, and it takes us about twenty minutes to finish it. It is obvious that Grandpa works very hard to keep the farm clean and beautiful. Every tree and plant looks healthy and well cared for.
A troop of cousins always comes to the farm during the holidays. We file into the big barn one by one to see the animals. Some of us try to balance on an old wooden log near the pond. When we do not know how to do something, we trust Grandpa to teach us the right way. He is always patient and kind, and he never gets angry when we make mistakes.
On Christmas Eve, we all drive to the small town nearby. A local band plays music in the square, and there is a big Christmas sale at the market. Everyone has a bright smile and a happy expression on their face. We walk around and look at the lights and decorations. We also have a long conversation with one of Grandpa's old friends who has known him for over thirty years. It is a warm and cheerful evening.
After dinner, Grandpa conducts a short talk for the whole family. He shares the current status of the farm and how it has changed and grown over many years. He says that failure is not the end of a story — it is a lesson that helps us try harder the next time. He also explains that true freedom means taking responsibility for the things we care about. We all listen carefully and adopt his wise and simple ideas into our own lives.
On Christmas morning, we walk along the track one more time before we leave. The air is fresh and cool. A woodpecker strikes the branch of a tall tree nearby, filling the quiet morning with sound. Being on the farm makes us feel connected to nature in a way that city life does not. This trip always touches our hearts and brings the whole family closer together. We always look forward to coming back to Grandpa's farm next Christmas.
