Every autumn, our school holds a big festival to celebrate its anniversary. Students gather in the schoolyard to discuss their entry into different events and activities. This year, our class decided to promote a folk music show to share our culture with the whole school. We also wanted to spread the word about our baseball club to attract new members. Our teacher helped us arrange the schedule for the day. She also set a clear limit on the number of students who could join each group, so that every team had enough time and space to prepare.
Tom is a student with a French background. He moved to Taiwan two years ago, and now he is one of my best colleagues on the baseball team. He always behaves in a polite and respectful manner on the field and never cries when we make mistakes or lose a game. Tom has strong faith in our team, and his positive energy helps all of us survive the long, tiring practice sessions after school. Even when we feel like giving up, Tom insists that we keep trying. His spirit is a great gift to everyone.
One day, Tom received a special package from his family in France. Inside the box was a book about baseball history, plus a warm letter from his parents. The letter said that his identity as a baseball player made his whole family feel very proud. Tom felt a strong sense of debt to his coach and teammates for helping him grow. He picked up the telephone and called his mother to read parts of the letter to her. She was so happy to hear his voice and encouraged him to keep going.
During the festival, our baseball team played a friendly game on the school's sports field. The rules were a little complex for the younger students who came to watch, but our team explained them clearly and played with care. We had to count every score carefully to stay ahead. At one point, one of our players got an injury on his knee after sliding near the border of the playing area. Everyone was worried, but the school doctor checked and said it was a minor issue. He just needed to rest and would be fine soon.
Despite the injury, our team kept their commitment to the game. We gathered our strength and continued to play our best baseball. In the end, we won the match, and the good news spread quickly through the school. Many students and teachers came to congratulate us after the game. Our folk music show that afternoon was also a great success. It was a day full of hard work, friendship, and happy memories. We learned that with faith and effort, we can get through any challenge together.
