Every summer, students from our school have the pleasure of joining a special one-week science camp. This year, our team captain, a tall and energetic boy named Max, led five of us through a week of exciting experiments and new discoveries. On the very first morning, we received a thick booklet filled with instructions. Our teacher told us to read each step carefully before we began anything.

Our first experiment was about plants. We walked into the yard and each picked up a thin, dry leaf from the ground. We also collected a small piece of old metal and a tiny rock from near the fence. Back in the lab, our science teacher showed us a Russian method of testing materials. She guided us to prepare two small jars, one with salt water and one with sugar water, and place our samples inside. Then we shut the lids tightly and waited in silence as the liquids slowly did their work.

The fourth experiment of the week focused on the human body. We learned that foods high in fat and sugar give us energy, but too much of either can be harmful over time. Each student carefully wrote notes in a small notebook that fit easily into a front pocket. Max reminded us to double-check every number before recording the final result. It was surprising to see how even a thin layer of fat could hold so much energy inside such a small piece of food.

On the third evening, we climbed a gentle hill behind the camp to look at the night sky. Using a simple telescope, we could clearly see one bright planet near the horizon. Our teacher told us that a famous Russian scientist had once described space as a world without an enemy—only endless questions waiting to be answered. As we looked up, the lights of a distant aircraft moved quietly across the dark sky, like a star with a purpose.

Back in the bedroom that night, I lay awake for a long time, thinking about the universe. I could hear the noise of other campers talking in the hallway, but it did not bother me. I thought of my cat at home, who always liked to curl up on my chest when I read before bed. I reached under my pillow, pulled out my notebook from the front pocket of my bag, and quietly wrote down every idea I wanted to remember.

The last day of camp was a joyful celebration. Each team shared the results of their best experiment with everyone. Max, our captain, stood up and said that the only true enemy of learning is the fear of making mistakes. At the end of the day, we all danced together to our favorite songs and laughed until our sides hurt. I felt like we were taking a treasure chest full of memories home with us. Science camp had shown us that when you follow your curiosity and work together, learning is always the greatest pleasure.
