Last week, I bought a book that has quickly become my favorite story this year. My older sister, who loves reading, told me about it at dinner one evening. The story is about a boy named Leo that grew up on a small island in the Pacific Ocean. He has a loyal dog that never leaves his side, and together they explore the world around them every day.
The island where Leo lives has a deep forest which is full of mystery and danger. One afternoon, Leo discovers an old map that leads him to a hidden cave near the beach. He is very excited because the cave is a place which no one in his village has visited for over fifty years. He decides to go inside and find out what is there.
Inside the cave, Leo finds a wooden box that is locked with a heavy iron key. When he finally opens it, he discovers an old letter that was written by his grandfather many years ago. The letter tells a story which surprises Leo very much. He learns that his grandfather was a brave explorer that once traveled to many countries around the world.
After reading the letter, Leo decides to become a great explorer, too. He makes a list of all the things that he wants to see and do one day. His dog, which always stays close to him, seems to understand his excitement and wags its tail happily. Together, they start planning a new adventure that may change their lives forever.
This book made me think a lot about friendship and courage. The sentence that I like most is: "The world is full of places that are waiting to be found." I believe that the stories which we read can open our minds and help us dream bigger. I cannot wait to find the next book that will take me on another exciting adventure!
