David sees a new person near the front desk on Monday morning. The person looks at a map and seems unsure where to go. David walks over and says, “Hello. Are you new here?” The person smiles and says, “Yes, my name is Kevin.”
David introduces himself and explains that he works on the sales team. Kevin says he is joining the customer service team. He asks where the meeting room is because he has a welcome meeting at ten. David points to a glass door and offers to walk with him.
On the way, David tells Kevin about the kitchen, the printer, and the lunch area. Kevin asks a few questions about the office. David answers them and says, “Please ask me if you need help.” Kevin thanks him and says the office seems friendly.
After the welcome meeting, Kevin comes back to his desk. David invites him to have coffee with the team. During the break, Kevin meets three more coworkers and learns their names. He still has much to learn, but he now knows where to go and who to ask. A simple hello helps him feel more comfortable on his first day.
