Thanksgiving is one of the most important holidays in the United States. It is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of November. Many people gather with their families to share a big meal and give thanks for all the good things in their lives. Have you ever wondered why this holiday started?

The story of Thanksgiving goes back to the year 1620. A group of people called the Pilgrims sailed from England to America on a ship called the Mayflower. They were looking for a new life where they could live and worship freely. The journey was long and difficult, and many Pilgrims became sick along the way.

When the Pilgrims arrived, they did not know how to survive in the new land. The native people who lived there, called the Wampanoag, helped them learn to grow food. Thanks to their help, the Pilgrims had a good harvest in the fall of 1621. To celebrate, both groups gathered together for a three-day feast. They were thankful for the food, the friendship, and a new beginning.

Today, Thanksgiving is still a time for families to come together. A roasted turkey is served at almost every Thanksgiving dinner, along with dishes like sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. People often go around the table and share what they are grateful for. This tradition reminds everyone to be thankful for the people and things in their lives.

Even though Thanksgiving is not a holiday in Taiwan, we can still learn something important from it. Think about the people who have helped you — your parents, teachers, or friends. I'm grateful that I have people who care about me, and I believe you do, too. Taking a moment to say thank you can make both you and the people around you feel happy. No matter where you live, being grateful is always a good habit.
